Social Media Secrets

Social Media Plus Summit is May, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

With 28+ keynote speakers, 50+ exhibitors and 1,000 attendees it is big news!

What's all the buzz about social media anyway?

Event Director, Bob Etheridge of Social Media Plus is our guest on this episode of Interviews with the Experts, and he spills a few secrets about social media success.

Listen to Bob tell us about the New York baker who fills his store the minute after he takes the fresh hot muffins from the oven. How does he do it?  Using social media.

You will also hear about the dry-cleaner who increased his business by 45% . . .  using Twitter!

Sure, there is some mundane content published on social networking pages. We have all heard somebody we know say, "I don't want to know what a stranger had for breakfast!". Try telling that to the New York baker. Chances are some tweets about breakfast today are about his sold-out muffins!

Social Media can no longer be ignored. It's simply far too important!

Press 'play' above for today's podcast . . . and enjoy your next breakfast.

Interviews with the Experts had the pleasure of speaking this week with a real live Performance Coach.

Rachel Staggs of SRS Coaching & Consulting spoke with me this week and I found this discussion interesting.

If you have ever wondered what a Performance Coach, Life Coach or Business Coach actually does then this interview is essential listening.

A key message from Rachel was for people to gain and understand the concept of self-awareness.

Remember to Surrender

There is nothing I enjoy more than trolling my local bookstore and finding a new book I had no idea existed.

Well - there is one thing I do enjoy more. That's when the book buys you!

I said what!?! How can a book 'buy you'?

What I mean is when the book seems to find you rather than you finding it.

That did happen I feel when I picked up a copy of The Naked Entrepreneur co-authored by Troy Hazard and Maria Elita.

I felt I just had to read it. If you read the book you will discover where that feeling comes from.

Troy Hazard is an entrepreneurial genius who has founded and nurtured nine businesses over two decades, has been a few days from bankruptcy, has turned around businesses and has consulted to countless companies. It's those experiences that have kept audiences engaged in 16 countries. Hazard s business talents earned him international respect, enough to be elected by the world s foremost business leaders to the role of Global President of the Entrepreneurs Organization.

Maria Elita lived an enchanted life, having wealth, stability and status. Nothing was out of reach for Ms Elita who either through money or persuasion attracted all she desired. Then without expectation, after her 30th birthday, that 'dream bubble' burst. She began to connect to the spiritual world and gifts she remembered as a child. She learned and saw a vision of life more profound. In this time of spiritual transformation her life s purpose was reveled. Ms Elita now serves as consultant to countless people and helps them find peace and clear their goals and vision.

The book is a great read. It's an easy read and if you have been following my episodes about intuition for business success then you will connect with the wisdom and advice in this book.
I am in the process of contacting the authors to pass on an invitation for an interview I hope I can bring you here on my Social Media Channel.

Something tells me it's going to happen but I will follow the advice in the book and 'remember to surrender' to the outcome.

Happy St Patricks Day

Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) is a yearly holiday celebrated on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland

It began as a purely Christian holiday and became an official feast day in the early 1600s. However, it has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Ireland's culture.

It is a public holiday on the island of Ireland; including Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora, especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and Montserrat, among others (source: Wikipedia)

The Chicago River is dyed green each year
for the St. Patrick's Day celebration, shown here in 2008
(source: Wikipedia)

I am all for fun and celebration and have enjoyed the spirit of St Pat's day myself many years in the past.

But, there is a worrying double standard seen today via the mainstream print media.

I'm referring to printed advertisements in the newspaper pages (Herald Sun, Wednesday, March 17, 2010, page 17) pushing bulk quantities of alcohol in case loads (24 cans or bottles).

Make no mistake this is no coincidence that these advertisements are published (with lots of green aspect in the color of the images) on the 17th March, St Patrick's Day.

When media such as the Herald-Sun printed newspaper, printed and published every morning in Melbourne, Australia, are firstly seen to be concerned about the rising instances of alcohol related violence in our cities then go and publish advertising promoting the incentive to purchase alcohol in bulk quantities. . . well . . . I smell double standards.

Not only do the advertisements push buying alcohol in bulk but the ad. I have in front of me today also announces the incentive to 'Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points' on your bulk alcohol purchase. Something along the lines of 'the more you buy the more frequent flyer points you can earn'. Smelly fingers in very smelly places, in my opinion.

But hang on! I know the realities of commercial media. It's not about the content it's about the revenue, at least that's the mantra being sung by media representatives each morning as they march along the mahogany walls of executive media management corridors.

So where does the solution lie? Send in the 'fun police' and ban celebrations? Of course not.
Ban all alcohol related advertising? Not going to happen. Modify the way alcohol is advertised? Maybe.

What about if large media groups donated a percentage of their advertising revenue to a relevant cause? In this instance, the Herald-Sun could write a fat cheque and give it to a worthy group involved in alcohol education programs in schools for example.

It irks me to see my favorite newspaper undoing so much of their good work in raising awareness of alcohol related issues by pandering to the grubby motives of huge corporations pushing to sell alcohol in bulk quantities to the average bloke down the street.

Don't get me wrong. Profit is not evil or dirty. The road to making profit can be very dirty and in some cases downright filthy! Depends who's walking the road I guess.

That's my opinion.

What about you? Please comment below . . . and if you have a drink today, be safe.

Social Media - The Game Changer

Without doubt the most significant shift in doing business online began with web2.0 and Social Media.

Think of it like the affect of an earth quake in the far away ocean giving rise to a swell of water that ends up being a tsunami of gigantic proportions.

Social Media is having a tsunami like affect on social networkers, internet marketers and web users in general.

One important difference. Instead of the terrible and catastrophic consequences of real-life tsunami, Social Media will instead pick you up and carry you off on a ride so amazing you will need to lift your chin high to catch your breath!

If all this comes across to you as just a bit of over zealous waffle then do watch the video above and be prepared to have your entire belief systems challenged.

It is truly the stuff of which dreams are made.

Inside Cosmetic Surgery with Dr Danny Lanzer

Back in early 2009 I interviewed dermatologist and cosmetic surgery expert Dr Danny Lanzer about the emerging trends in cosmetic surgery procedures.

WARNING: The audio quality is less than perfect at times

Many of the issues Dr Lanzer covered back then are now making the news exactly how he predicted.

For this reason I thought it appropriate to re-publish this candid interview above.

Some of the main topics we cover during this recorded audio interview of 30 minutes are:
  • Who Is Best Suited To Cosmetic Surgery?
  • Tumescent Liposuction
  • Breast Reduction (Men and Women)
  • Suture Lift
  • Saggy Necks
  • Around The Eyes
  • Wrinkles (Men and Women)
  • Blotches, Veins and Color Spots
  • Fat Removal
  • Mega Liposuction
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview and I think you will too (if you can forgive the 'clicks' and 'pops' in the audio).

Intuition for Business Success

Streaming Audio - Play Now

In a previous blog I reviewed a book titled The 50th Law co-authored by New York rapper 50 Cent and acclaimed author Robert Greene.

The main message from this book is "fear nothing".  Easier said than done.

After reading The 50th Law I could not get out of my head one single idea. It kept repeating itself over and over in my mind.

That idea was this: 'the ultimate skill in business today is to have an intuitive feel for what must come next'.

What follows is too much of a coincidence for my liking. Especially as I have been working on developing my own intuition for the last two years or so. That decision to build my intuitive skills, by the way, was prompted after reading another book titled The 11th Element by Robert Scheinfeld and published by Wiley (go hunt that book down too!).

Here's the thing. As I am playing the 'ultimate skill' line from The 50th Law over and over in my mind recently I notice a Twitter account that is standing out like a flashing neon light. And yet this account had nothing in particular about it to make it stand out as such. It was, of course, the Twitter account page of Intuitive Consultant and international radio host Miss Lucy Diamond.

As is the very nature of social media I was able to connect with Lucy Diamond in a very personal way and within hours I was recording an interview with her about how intuition can help you succeed more in your business and personal life.

The interview was recorded today in fact! Social media is amazing.

You can listen to the streaming MP3 audio version of that interview via the flash player at the top of this post.

Some of the key things Lucy reveals include -
  • you can combine your common sense, past experiences and natural abilities with intuition
  • the importance of asking yourself  "what do I want to achieve"
  • the need for truth and honesty from within (being true to yourself)
  • realizing that from the moment you wake-up your intuition is at work
Lucy Diamond is founder of the Intuitive Life Network and hosts two high ranking internet radio broadcasts in the niche of metaphysics and paranormal phenomena. She is a delightful person to talk to and I know Lucy and I will be talking again soon to record more of our discussions about the role of intuition in business success.

Two books I highly recommend you read in 2010. The two books mentioned above!
